Career Pathways and Communities

As part of the Reimagining Faculty Development working group, the Department of Medicine is creating Career Pathways and Communities. The framework gives faculty at all ranks individualized opportunities to develop their areas of interest and expertise through a tailored faculty development plan, while building shared resources and experiences across divisions.

It is not intended to replace career development structures already in place in some divisions (e.g., Hospital Medicine; Primary Care & Population Health). Divisions with established programs are encouraged to engage with departmental Career Pathways and Communities where feasible.

Our Communities

  • Basic & Translational Resarch
  • Clinical Research & QI
  • Medical Education, Teaching & Social Media
  • AI, Data Science & Informatics
  • Global Health & Health Policy
  • Community Partnership, Health Equity & Advocacy
  • Innovation & Design
  • Leadership, Clinical Excellence & Program Building

Faculty at all ranks are invited to join. Each pathway forms a Community — a cohort sharing common interests and needs across all ranks, to maximize community and shared career experience. Each Community has a designated Lead who oversees the pathway and designs its curriculum and activities, with oversight from DOM Leadership and Faculty Development Leaders.

Each quarter, the Office of Faculty Development hosts a meeting of each Community (via Zoom, alternating with an in-person meeting of all Communities). Communities present progress to the full group, then break into individual sessions. Communities also work with the Office to develop resources that support faculty in their work.
