Honoring Asian Mothers: Caregiving, Nutrition, and Women’s Health

Please join us for a special virtual event in honoring AANHPI Month and Mother’s Day. Panelists Ranak Trivedi, Bertha Chan, Thaomi Michelle Dinh, and Jessica Kung will explore the connection between culture, caregiving, and women’s health across generations via their personal stories and expert insights. This event is sponsored by the Center for Asian Health Research and Education, Stanford Health Library, and the Department of Medicine CCB Team.

Together, we will honor all women, and the allies that support them, while reflecting on this year’s theme: “Rights. Justice. Action. Attend In-Person Writing Studio for WIMM Community Poetry Project with Dr Diana Farid To celebrate Women in Medicine Month, the Department of Medicine Culture and Community Building Committee and Dr. Diana Farid invite you to contribute to a community poem project in honor of women in medicine.  We are hosting an in-person writing studio for Stanford faculty, fellows, residents, and staff. Participant submissions will be curated by poet and physician Diana Farid, MD, into a finished written piece. The final poem will be showcased on the WIMM website and may be shared through other media. Please complete this form to join us for an evening of collaborative writing, inspiration, and connection.  Wednesday, September 24th, from 4:00pm - 5:30pm in Alway Courtyard **Writing supplies and light refreshments will be provided.** Space is limited, and registration required to attend. An Outlook Calendar invitation will be sent to the address you provide.  We are also offering the opportunity to access the project writing prompts online and submit your written responses using this virtual submission form. The form will remain open until September 30th.

Honoring Juneteenth: A Celebration of Black Culture on Wednesday, June 26th Join the DoM DEI Committee for a live performance of West African Dance from Tiye Garrett and the Kuumba Dance Team. More information will be provided as we get closer to the event date. 12pm - 1pm The Alumni Lawn (between LKSC and the Clark Center) Food and drinks will be available for event guests. This is a picnic-style event, you're welcome to bring a blanket or chair!

Film Screening of "Umenoki" and Panel Discussion on "Caring for Asian Elders" on May 8th
  • The Center for Asian Health Research and Education (CARE), Stanford Medical Humanities and Arts Program, and Stanford Health Library welcome you to a screening of the student-film Umenoki. The documentary film captures poignant stories from Japanese American families as they grow and age, from the turmoil of internment to their last days at the Umenoki Gardens Senior Home which was founded on the grounds of the Southern Alameda County Buddhist Church in Union City.

    Following the film there will be a panel discussion on caring for Asian elders.
