Participant Information
The Leadership Development Program (LDP) aims to improve the leadership skills for interested, high-potential employees in the Department of Medicine.
Program Eligibility
The program aims to give participants an overview of our Department, as well as our School, while also connecting them with the individuals leading our organization. High-potential employees will have the opportunity to learn about the Department, think of their own career trajectory, and learn strategies for how to get to the next step on their career path.
While LDP participants learn about the people, leaders, and structures of the Department of Medicine—the largest department at Stanford University—they also engage in workshops that directly help them with their own self-awareness and personal branding.
Targeted toward staff who are capable of rising to and succeeding at a more senior, critical roles, the LDP admits employees:
- who are active Department of Medicine staff in non-academic, benefited position
- who are of any classification and salary grade A–G in a non-managerial position
- who have completed both their trial employment period & one year of service with the Department of Medicine by the first session

Selection Process
Participants are selected by a committee of LDP officials after a review of their application and a supervisor’s letter of support.
Selection is based on recognized leadership potential, demonstrated initiative/engagement, excellent performance, and personal aspiration.
How to Apply
Once the application period has opened for the year, participants are encouraged to apply via the LDP Online Application Form. The prospective participant must complete the program application.
After an applicant has been vetted by LDP officers, the LDP will contact the applicant’s supervisor to continue the application process.
Once the supervisor completes the application process with the LDP, the application is complete.
