Heather Wakelee Receives 2021 Bonnie J. Addario Lectureship Award

Heather Wakelee, MD, professor and chief of oncology and deputy director of the Stanford Cancer Institute, just received the 2021 Bonnie J. Addario Lectureship Award from the GO2 Foundation for Lung Cancer.  The award recognizes Wakelee for her “decades of dedication to lung cancer research covering multiple facets of the disease.”

Over the years Wakelee has investigated various specific mutations of lung cancer subtypes and led numbers of clinical trials to help with treatment for lung cancer patients who have undergone surgery.  She also has worked with colleagues to help improve detection of lung cancer and better understand why it develops.

Bonnie J. Adario, co-founder and chair of the GO2 Foundation, concluded, “we are pleased to honor Dr. Wakelee for her commitment to and leadership on a broad range of cutting-edge lung cancer research projects and clinical trials.”

David Gandara, Director of Thoracic Oncology at U.C. Davis Health and past lectureship award recipient, added that Wakelee is “nationally and internationally recognized for her accomplishments in lung cancer research and clinical trial leadership, but even more so as a visionary with unique insight into future directions for advancing our understanding and management of this cancer.” Congratulations to Dr. Wakelee!
