Thomas Krummel will be 2014 recipient of the Albion Walter Hewlett Award

Thomas Krummel, MD is the 2014 recipient of the Albion Walter Hewlett Award.

Thomas Krummel, MD, Emile Holman Professor, Chair of the Department of Surgery, and the Susan B. Ford Surgeon-in-Chief at Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital, is the 2014 recipient of the Albion Walter Hewlett Award in the Department of Medicine.

In a letter announcing the decision, Robert Harrington, Chair of the Department of Medicine, wrote:

“Dr. Krummel has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery for over 15 years leading it from a relatively small department to one of the most prominent and innovative surgical departments in the country. Tom is an outstanding clinical surgeon, inspirational leader, superb scientist and dedicated teacher/mentor, all core attributes of Hewlett Award winners. He is also a wonderful colleague and friend to many of us in the Department of Medicine. Tom has received a number of honors and awards, including a recent election to the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering Fellowship, which denotes the recognition of his prominent and impactful career role as a pioneer and innovator. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Krummel on this accomplishment. All of us in the department are honored to have him among the Hewlett awardees.”

The award will be presented to Dr. Krummel at Medicine Grand Rounds on Wednesday, March 4 from 8-9am in LKSC, on the second floor Berg Halls B&C where he will be the featured speaker.
