Aabed Meer, MD, MBA, is in his last year of residency in internal medicine. Following college at Harvard and medical and business school at Stanford, he spent time working to create and grow innovative healthcare companies, while also advising healthcare systems wanting to invest in new healthcare ideas.

Aabed’s interest in healthcare innovation was piqued when he had an opportunity to contribute to the Human Genome Project as a high school student. Years later, he researched health economics issues both domestically and abroad with Kaiser Permanente and the U.K.'s National Health Service.  His work on medical technology innovation has been recognized by the Wall Street Journal and was presented at a US Congressional hearing in support of innovation.

He was drawn to Stanford because of its "unique ability to bring passionate clinicians and tremendous resources together to foster innovation." And like many residents, he was also inspired by Northern California's natural beauty, and enjoys the many hikes, trails, and ocean views it has to offer.

Today, his daily work mirrors the tripartite mission of academic medical centers: patient care, teaching and research. In Aabed’s case, he continues to think about ways to support healthcare innovation efficiently. As part of his contributions to research, he published a study that included 10 million patients and he hopes that the results will impact the lives of many more. He also teaches medical students and other trainees and believes that patient care is ultimately “a fundamental part of what we do and it makes our other endeavors meaningful."
