Collaboration, Innovation, Compassion Are Among the Most Valued Characteristics of a Stanford Residency
Stanford provides its residents with unmatched clinical and research opportunities. But it’s what the residents themselves bring to Stanford – energy, curiosity, passion – that makes our program so vibrant.
Our residents have diverse backgrounds. They have unique interests and experiences. As a result, they make significant contributions to our community not only day-to-day as members of our house staff but also in terms of the big picture: they share our vision.
Through their training at Stanford, residents Josh Biddle and Becca Tisdale, for example, are pursuing careers in global health. And Connie E-Jean Chen manages both her residency training and her role as a Silicon Valley entrepreneur.
Josh describes his fellow residents as “completely amazing, super smart, friendly, hardworking and selfless.” We couldn’t agree more. Stanford’s residents share an enthusiasm for clinical excellence. They advance a compassionate approach to patient care. And they believe in what’s possible… embodying the spirit of innovation that’s so much a part of what we do here at Stanford.
We’re proud to introduce you to some of them personally.

I chose to attend Stanford because it is a world class institution that does groundbreaking research but also cares deeply about the individual lives and careers of its trainees.

One thing that has really drawn residents into this program is the critical care component. The ICU is really at the intersection of medicine and anesthesia.
