Residency Awards Celebrate Outstanding Work Ethic and Exceptional Patient Care


Congratulations to our five medicine colleagues recognized at the 2019 Stanford Department of Medicine Residency Awards Banquet! This annual event celebrates the outstanding work ethic, teaching ability, professionalism, research accomplishments and exceptional patient care demonstrated by residents, faculty, and fellows who are selected by the residents. View the criteria for each award and this year’s recipients below.

·       Charles Liao, MD, received The David A. Rytand Clinical Teaching Award which honors an exceptional Department of Medicine faculty attending who demonstrates compassionate and personalized bedside care; enthusiasm about teaching; appreciation of both medical and clinical medicine; and a commitment to excellence in housestaff training and development.

·       Arathi Mohan, MD,  is the recipient of The Charles Dorsey Excellence in Caring for Patients Award, a recognition sponsored by the Charles Dorsey Armstrong Foundation in honor of his role as a founder of Menlo Clinic. The award is given to a senior resident who best exemplifies professional and compassionate clinical care of patients and the science and art of medicine in the care of patients.

·       Daniel Gerber, MD,  was named the Best Clinical Teaching Fellow, an award created by the Department of Medicine Fellows Association in 1986 to recognize an individual who exemplifies excellence in clinical teaching.

·       Andrew Moore, MD, and Surbhi Singhal, MD, are dual recipients of the Best Clinical Teaching by a Medicine Resident Award. This recognition is bestowed upon a resident(s) who demonstrates remarkable enthusiasm for teaching and an appreciation for research and clinical medicine.

·       Andrew Moore also received The Award for Professionalism as a Member of the Housestaff. Established in 1999 by Kelley Skeff, MD, PhD, George DeForest Barnett Professor of Medicine, the recognition is given to a resident who exemplifies the highest standards in professionalism including compassion, commitment, honor and integrity, respect for patients, respect for colleagues and respect for all members of the health care team.
