Black History Month Grand Rounds


We’ll be kicking off Inclusion 2021 with Black History Month Grand Rounds. Throughout the month of February, we’ll host four outstanding Black speakers, who will address important topics ranging from health disparities to the politics of representation.


Michelle Albert, MD MPH -Associate Dean of Admissions and Director of the NURTURE Center at UCSF School of Medicine

For the month’s first MGR on February 3, Michelle Albert, MD, MPH - Director, (NURTURE Center), Associate Dean of Admissions, UCSF School of Medicine, and President of the Association of Black Cardiologists will discuss “Adversity and Cardiovascular Disease: Mapping Sociobiological Mechanisms and Precision Health Interventions.”

Quinn Capers, D, FACC, FSCAI, Associate Dean for Faculty Diversity, and Vice-Chair for Diversity and Inclusion in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern

On February 10, Quinn Capers, D, FACC, FSCAI, associate dean for faculty diversity, and vice-chair for diversity and inclusion in the Department of Internal Medicine at UT Southwestern, will present "Diversity is the Ultimate ‘Anti-Racism’ Statement."  Quinn is a nationally recognized leader on diversity and inclusion and has helped medical schools across the country reduce implicit bias.

And on February 17 we’ll hear from a panel of Stanford Medicine experts, led by Carla Pugh, professor of surgery and Director of the T.E.C.I, and including Hannah Valantine, professor of medicine (cardiology) and director of the Team Science Initiative; and Terrance Mayes, associate dean for equity and strategic initiatives and the executive director of the commission on justice and equity, about how to implement diversity and inclusion programs that deliver accountability and measurable change.

And finally, on February 24, Rhea Boyd, MD, MPH, pediatrician and child and community health advocate, will present her talk “The Politics of Representation: On Diversity, Inclusion and Justice.”
