LEAD (Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity) Program: Call for Mentors

We are proud to announce that we are taking applications for the 2020-2021 cohort of the innovative LEAD (Leadership Education in Advancing Diversity) Program, starting in August 2020. The LEAD program is looking for educational mentors (faculty, educational administrators) who are passionate about equity, diversity and inclusion.

The Stanford Medicine LEAD Program is a 10-month longitudinal leadership program for residents and fellows across GME to develop leadership and scholarship skills in addressing issues related to equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Mentors will work with a small group of residents and fellows to develop a workshop on an EDI topic of their choice and help to advance the program’s goal of producing leaders in academic medicine dedicated to EDI and improving the culture of medicine. While previous training in EDI is welcome, it is not a prerequisite.

Vision: Develop diverse, inclusive leaders that advance health equity.

Mission: Educate and empower the next generation of medical leaders to advance equity, diversity and inclusion.

The program consists of monthly, 2-hour Tuesday evening sessions from 6-8pm and a 1-hour mentor only session. The expectation is that participants will attend a minimum of 8 of the 10 sessions. The first hour is for interactive discussion-based lectures led by leaders in and outside of the Stanford community. The second hour is spent working in mentored, small groups on developing workshop presentations, culminating in the 4th annual Diversity and Inclusion Forum on May 21, 2021 to showcase the scholarly works completed. The mentor only sessions are dedicated to providing real-time training on mentor skills and career development. Mentors have the option to attend these monthly, 1-hour sessions from 12-1p or 5-6p before the regular LEAD session. Visit our website for more information about the program and prior cohorts.
