Q: What is the typical timeline between submission of application and interview invitation? 

A: Between 6-8 weeks.

Q: How are the applications reviewed?

A: We value equity and all applications for a given posting will be reviewed using the same criteria and grading scale developed by the search committee for the specific search. The criteria and grading scale will be consistent with the faculty line, rank and other considerations as posted.  Applications are only reviewed after the criteria have been discussed and agreed upon by the search committee.

Q: What is the typical interview format?

A: The format varies depending on the search committee. Typically, the first interview is held by Zoom but not always.  A first interview can also be an individual meeting or group meeting with some or all search committee members. Second interviews typically involve on-site visit and individual meetings. Our interview process for basic research  positions also includes a job talk and a “chalk talk."

Q: Who makes up the search committee?

A: The search committee is made up a Search Chair, a Department of Medicine faculty affairs specialist, and at least 4 other faculty members drawn from diverse backgrounds. Committee members typically include faculty from the same division and outside divisions and/or departments, depending on the goal of the search. As the hiring manager, the Division Chief is never a member of the search committee for their division.

Q: What is the typical timeline from job posting to selection of final candidate?

A: This timeline is variable depending on the requirements of the unique search, but the typical timeline is 8 to 11 months.

A: Yes, our faculty affairs specialist would be glad to assist and connect faculty applicants to the Stanford Housing Program and local community resources, including:
