Mission and Goals
Leading to Effectively Navigate Searches (LENS) is a Department of Medicine initiative designed to transform the faculty hiring experience into a welcoming, seamless, transparent, and highly effective process. Established in 2019, LENS focuses on what we believe is a pivotal, modifiable moment: identifying and recruiting extraordinary individuals who will contribute to the growth, vibrancy, and future of our academic community.
The program is led by a team of trained faculty and experienced staff LENS Advocates who partner with search committees to bring structure, strategy, and consistency to every search. Together, we aim to ensure that each search is conducted with rigor, fairness, and integrity, creating a process that reflects our values and strengthens our community. Through streamlined workflows, thoughtful outreach, and a strong focus on the candidate experience, LENS has led to meaningful improvements across the board, including shorter search timelines and a wider, more robust pool of candidates.
Our mission is simple yet ambitious: to make every search a positive, efficient, and community-building experience, one that supports our search committees and thoughtfully engages candidates.
