Our Mission

Our Mission

To build a community in which all people – including those who have historically been marginalized – can thrive, we will embrace human diversity and pursue practices that advance equity, inclusion, belonging, access, and justice.

Our Values

We are committed to reflecting and celebrating diversity, educating ourselves, creating a sense of belonging, establishing an anti-racist culture and moving toward justice.

Our Vision

To reach our collective potential through these actions:

  • Equitable recruitment, retention, and promotion of faculty, staff, fellows, and residents;
  • inclusive environments;
  • representation of all in education activities fostering an ever deepening understanding of medical history, allyship, and justice;
  • application of a health equity lens for research and scholarly work; and
  • community engagement/clinical care of vulnerable populations.

Stanford Medicine Vision

We are proud to support the Stanford Medicine Vision:

Achieve inclusive excellence and health equity across Stanford Medicine and beyond.

Key Initiatives

Chair Diversity Investigator Awards

Our Chair Diversity Investigator Award program provides four grants of $50,000 each to young investigators whose research is focused on diversity, equity, inclusion, and the elimination of health care disparities. Applications open annually in the summer.

Faculty Lens Advisors

In 2019, we created an innovative program to improve the diversity of our candidate pools, utilizing Faculty LENS Advisors (LENS = Leading to Enhance Excellence in the Navigation of Searches.) These are professors in our department, who have been given both funded protected time (20%) and training, along with staff support, to better identify diverse candidates for our professoriate searches. Health Equity Education
