QSU collaborating at Population Health Sciences Institute

The QSU will facilitate research for faculty on the medical campus in the following arenas:

Current Members

Manisha Desai, Ph.D. (unit director):  Dr. Desai is clinical associate professor in the Department of Medicine. She joined Stanford in 2009 after spending 9 years on the faculty of the Department of Biostatistics at Columbia University.  While there, she contributed to many areas of medical research including cancer, genomics, oral health, and psychiatric epidemiology.  She has extensive experience in the design and analysis of clinical trials as well as epidemiologic studies.  Her areas of methodological interest include epidemiologic studies, clinical trials, and missing data. man
Jane Paik, Ph.D. (senior biostatistician): Dr. Paik joined the QSU after completing her Ph.D in the Statistics Department at Columbia University in 2009.  Her areas of expertise are in survival analysis and the analysis of spatially correlated data.  She was the winner of the Student Paper Competition at the Eastern North American Region/International Biometrics Society in 2008 and the winner of one of four International Chinese Student Association Awards in 2009. janepaik

Jessica Kubo, MS (biostatistician): joined the QSU in February 2010.  She completed her Masters in Statistics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.  She is an expert in both database management and analysis of large data sets including studies of high throughput data.  She has extensive experience with SQL and SAS for database management and R, SAS, C, and MATLAB for data analysis.

Aya Mitani, MPH (biostatistician): Aya joined the QSU in February 2011. She completed her Masters of Public Health degree with a concentration in Biostatistics at Yale University in 2008. She then served as a biostatistician for the Department of Anesthesia at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston for two and a half years where she provided statistical consulting for multiple clinical research studies. She has extensive experience in SAS, R, and STATA for data management and analysis.
Ben Goldstein, Ph.D. (senior biostatistician): Dr. Goldstein joined the QSU in 2011 after receiving his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from UC Berkeley with an emphasis in Computational & Genomic Biology and an M.P.H. in Epidemiology & Biostatistics. His expertise encompasses statistical methods for genetic association studies as well as prediction & machine learning methodology. He has an interest in risk prediction for health outcomes, particularly with genetic and/or longitudinal data. He enjoys collaborating with doctors, epidemiologists and subject matter experts.

Linda Enomoto (program coordinator): Linda joined the QSU in 2010. She keeps track of the QSU funding and collaborations. She also manages the QSU website.
