Overview
Quality Improvement Mission Statement
The Department of Medicine is the largest department within Stanford University's School of Medicine with approximately 230 faculty in 15 Divisions and Programs. Our shared vision is to achieve excellence in research, education and patient care. The Department of Medicine’s mission is to provide high quality, patient-centered, safe, and evidence-based care to all of our patients. To support this, we maintain an ongoing program to evaluate and improve the quality and safety of patient care.
To achieve our mission, the Department of Medicine is committed to:
- Improving health care provider and system performance through Departmental peer review, as well as review of Joint Commission Core measures, UHC Core measures, AHRQ patient safety measures, and data from division- or department-specific QI/PS initiatives.
- Physician accountability for their clinical performance. With appropriate metrics and timely, specific feedback, each physician can identify areas of clinical practice for professional development, learning, and improvement. We have a wide variety of activities designed to foster continued learning and improvement, including division-specific case conferences and Departmental Grand Rounds.
- Educating and engaging medical students and residents about quality, patient safety and organizational change through experiential learning
