W. Ray KIm MD Chief Gastroenterologyand Helpatology
W. Ray Kim MD

Kim received his MD degree from Seoul National University and his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania.  He did his residency in internal medicine at the University of Arkansas, Little Rock followed by a fellowship in gastroenterology and advanced training in hematology/liver transplantation at Mayo Clinic.  Following his training, Kim joined the staff at Mayo Clinic and the faculty of the Mayo College of Medicine.

He rose to the level of Professor of Medicine while building a leading clinical research group making seminal observations in liver transplantation, especially concerning public policy around organ allocation.  His research has been funded through NIH for many years.  After a national search, Kim emerged as the leading candidate to lead the GI/Hepatology division.  We are delighted that he has accepted the offer to join the Stanford community and look forward to welcoming him and his family to campus later this fall.

Please also join me in thanking Mark Musen for leading this search and most importantly, in thanking Uri Ladabaum for his superb leadership of the division as the interim chief.

Robert Harrington, MD, Chair Department of Medicine
