Primary Care and Internal Medicine rise
in latest U.S. News and World Report rankings

Stanford Medicine’s primary care and internal medicine programs are ranked among the best in the nation, according to U.S. News & World Report’s 2016 edition of “America’s Best Graduate Schools.”

In the newest rankings, internal medicine was tied for 8th, up from 10th in the 2015 report, and primary care rose to the 25th spot.

“We were very pleased to see these latest rankings that acknowledge the outstanding work being done in the Department,” said Bob Harrington (chair, medicine). “While no external ranking system provides all we need to know about a school, a department or a program, these latest publications provide at least some validation of the outstanding efforts in clinical care, research and education. The Stanford School of Medicine has long been one of the top ranked medical schools, and to see the extraordinary rise in the primary care rankings is a testament to the vision and hard work of leaders throughout Stanford Medicine. Special acknowledgement goes to Mark Cullen, Julie White and Sang Chang for their leadership efforts here.”

U.S News assessments are based on two types of data: surveys and indicator data on faculty, research activity and students. More information about the methodology can be found here.
