2017 Halloween Door Decorating Contest
Sixteen doors enter. One will win....
And the winner is...the Residency Office!
Monday, October 30th was the day of judgment. The committee made their way across campus to visit 16 divisions in the Department of Medicine for the second annual Halloween Door Decorating contest.
Themes were varied: everything from Harry Potter to "psycho ward" to underwater, and props, snacks, and sound effects were equally impressive. Oncology offered "finger food" in the form of ghoulish cookies. Infectious Diseases had a dark corridor lined with caution tape and haunted by a headless white-coated being yelling, "BRAAAAAINS!"
PCPH had a carnival theme with red-nosed employees, a ticket booth, a fortune teller, cotton candy, and tarot cards. SPRC was interactive: instructed to come closer, committee members were terrified when a white-coated zombie slammed on the window right in front of them.
The Residency Office was the ultimate winner, with their underwater theme taking the prize. The announcement was made Tuesday, November 7th, at the All-Staff Meeting.

Biomedical Informatics Research had a Harry Potter-themed door, complete with cupcakes that "sorted" you into houses with hidden icing inside.
Blood & Marrow Transplantation with a mummy-themed door all wrapped up and ready to go.
Cardiovascular Medicine had IT's way with the committee, showcasing the movie's clown Pennywise and the little boy he lures into the sewers.
Gastroenterology & Hepatology featured a zombie with a diseased liver.
Operations was Wizard of Oz-themed, with liquid courage and candy hearts and brains for all.
Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine offered an interactive haunted house.
Immunology & Rheumatology had a celebratory witch theme with a cackle, a broom, and a lot of snacks.
Oncology brought us a battle between two common irrational fears: clowns and spiders.
Primary Care and Outcomes Research had a "B/eat Cal" theme, covering their door with images of animals wearing Cal's logo.
The Residency Office offered a calmer underwater theme with Dory's advice from Finding Nemo and real bubbles.
Nephrology's Dia de los Muertos-inspired door.
Stanford Prevention Research Center's display featured ghouls with pedometers to monitor their steps, a nod to their On the Move campaign.
Endocrinology went with a "psycho ward" theme, with an ENDO sign dripping blood.
Primary Care and Population Health & Hospital Medicine went with a demented carnival theme, with cotton candy, bunting, tickets, and a fortune teller.
The Stanford Center for Clinical Research had a crushing problem.
Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine‘s display was actually a window inspired by The Nightmare Before Christmas.
