Stanford-AstraZeneca Partnership Awards First Round of Funding

Over the next three years, $2 million in funding will be available for Stanford investigators through a partnership between Stanford Center for Clinical Research (SCCR) and AstraZeneca. Recently, the collaboration announced its first round of awards (Year 1, 2016-17), selecting projects by Mintu Turakhia, MD,  assistant professor (cardiovascular medicine) and Nigam Shah, PhD, associate professor (biomedical informatics).

The initial focus of the partnership is cardo-metabolic diseases, respiratory diseases, oncology, mobile health (mHealth), clinical trial design innovation and training initiatives, and the selected projects for Year 1 address challenges in these areas. Turakhia’s research will explore “smartphone guided cardiac rehabilitation and medication adherence management after acute coronary syndrome,” and Shah will concentrate research on “learning personalized treatment guidelines.” Each project will receive $260,000 in funding for the project duration of one year.

The collaboration is excited to announce that it will start accepting the next round of research proposal applications for Year 2 starting November, 2016. Please contact Nicole Ventre at nventre@stanford.edu for any questions about this collaboration and the proposal submission process and timeline.
