The Selection of Winners
The Hewlett Award Selection Committee meets annually to determine whether an award should be made. Nominations are sought from all segments of the Stanford academic community. They should be directed to the chairman of the Department of Medicine, who serves as chairman of the committee.
Nominations are accepted for living physicians with some Stanford background
and who are well-known at Stanford as dynamic role models for future academicians
and practitioners of scientific medicine. Most importantly, those nominated
should symbolize the ideal portrayed in Udinotti's sculpture: the physician
of care and skill who is committed to discovering and using biologic knowledge,
wisdom and compassion to return patients to productive lives.
