The educational mission of the Department of Medicine is to provide excellent broad-based clinical training in a scholarly environment for future academic leaders. We provide clinical training in all of the disciplines of internal medicine. With respect to our educational mission, Department of Medicine trainees include medical students, graduate students, interns, residents, clinical and research fellows, and postdoctoral fellows.

Medical Students

Clerkships/Sub-internships in Internal Medicine is an eight-week ward experience designed to expose students to the diagnosis and management of common medical conditions.

The Residency Program is designed to prepare you for any career in Internal Medicine.

Stanford Medicine 25 is an innovative program focused on teaching residents advanced physical exam skills.

Through the Stanford Center for Innovation in Global Health (CIGH), there are also many educational opportunities pertaining to global health that are open to our residents, both within the residency program and across the University.
